The
confinement period of course meant some interruption of the reconstruction work of the Notre Dame Cathedral,
but it has now been resumed for a couple of weeks. The objective to have it pretty much finished in 2024 has been confirmed, as well as the basic idea to
bring it all more or less back to what is was before the fire … no extravagant
new ideas.
The yellow
crane we can see is the highest of this kind in Europe and was obviously
offered for free by the manufacturer.
The
scaffolding seems to be the big issue. This involves new ones all over the
place, but more specially
the need to dismantle the scaffolding which was there before the fire - for the
renovation of the now fallen spire. As it melted during the fire, the
demolition is complicated and needs a lot of precautions… takes time.
Some parts
of the cathedral are extremely well protected.
In front of the cathedral, on a protecting wall, you can see some illustrations
by kids from all over the world.

I like the no new extravagances idea. The old one was beautiful.
Good to see you back. Thank you for the update on Notre Dame; we don't want to forget what is left to be done.
Peter, this is fascinating. thank you -- and it's good to see you back here.
I'm glad there are to be no big changes!
I was dreading an unsuitable modern addition to the grand old building, so I am happy that it will look as I remember it. Bonne chance to the workmen!

Bien évidemment qu'il faut la rebâtir à l'identique.
J'aime beaucoup les illustrations d'enfants.
Contenter de te revoir sur ton blog et ailleurs.
I am glad to see you back posting Peter! Thank you for the photos of the work on Notre Dame. I am so glad to read that it is being restored with no "extravagances" :)

This is an amazing challenge. Good luck, bonne chance, to all the workmen and the planners.
I hope you are well and can blog again soon. We miss you!
I was in Paris in 2019 just before the pandemic hit. I spent a lot of time gazing at the reconstruction from my room across the bridge. i hope it is completed by 2024. Thanks for the great pics.
Hope we hear from you soon and you are healthy!
