Quai Branly Museum

Behind the glass wall you see above is a surprisingly quiet garden…

… surrounding the Quai Branly Museum (Musée du Quai Branly = « MQB ») which opened in 2006. It features indigenous art, cultures…  There are actually several buildings - libraries, offices, shops, a cafeteria…

Spectacular is also the “green wall”, part of the exterior of the office part of the museum.

When the dark falls, you have a wonderful surprise.

The architect is Jean Nouvel. Here are some of his finished, ongoing, planned projects. In Paris, the most well-known finished ones are the Cartier Foundation and the Arab World Institute.

I will try to make a post about the museum interior one day.
(This post is pre-programmed; I’m back in Sweden for a couple of days.)

Excellent reportage, Peter. I really love "the Green Wall." It is striking even in the winter, and everytime I see it, I wonder how they get those plants to grow there, in the cold [and polluted] Parisian air! Have you ever tried the fabulous restaurant inside the museum, les Ombres? Well worth a visit AND it overlooks the Eiffel Tower ;-) On another note, thank you for stopping by chez French Girl this week and for your encouraging words. Veronique

what a coincidence - I was here two weeks ago when I visited Paris with my students for a conference - I thought the Museum was wonderful in every way - the building, the exhibits etc - it is on my list to do a post about in my current Museum series - Greetings from the Riviera Catherine

I liked the entrance to the musée. I even liked the interior layout. But the lighting was very poor and I had to leave before I got a headache.

Thank you so much for this interesting post. A few years ago I did a post on the Landscape artist that does the living walls.

Although I "know" the wall, there is so much more to see and do. I may have to try the restaurant that Veronique mentioned.

See you soon, mon ami!

Ahhhh, our minds think alike again Peter. I posted the Green Wall this week as well. Mine, I shot in Jan.'10, when as you know, it was bitter cold and we had snow. The wall wasn't quite so lush and was dripping in icicles. The museum is very very interesting. I love your top photo!

I hope you are enjoying some fine Swedish Christmas treats while you are away!

Hope you´re having a great time in your country.

Does Göteborg look a little like Saint Petersburg?

I´ve never heard of this museum before! Your photos are beautiful as usual.

Thank you, Peter.

P.S. Please ask the Swedish Chef for that popcorn recipe...

I knew about the green wall but not the night lights. Worth making a trip in the evening for, definitely. Thanks for the tip!
