A concert

Last week I had the pleasure to be invited to a concert onboard a transformed barge, berthed just in front of Notre Dame.

The invitation came from the two charming young ladies, Marie Polge (piano) and Chloé de Laubier (singing). They are both qualified highly educated professionals, but when they are music performers they are “only” highly qualified "amateurs". They gave this concert – and a second one two days later – just for the pleasure of their friends.

Everything was well prepared on the little barge, including the printed program.

We could listen to a number of romantic pieces related to “dreams”, by composers like Fauré, Debussy, Gounod, Satie, Offenbach… and Marie excelled with some piano solos by Liszt, Chopin, Poulenc, Schumann.. . Everything was nicely presented with some talks around what was going to be played and with a lot of smiles.

At the end, there were of course “bravos” … and chatting around something to eat and drink.

A perfect evening! Great thanks to Marie and Chloé!!

(The quality of my photos is not up to the standard of the evening, but I was rather concentrating on listening.)

Nul doute, cette soirée a dû être merveilleuse... Merci de partager avec nous l'ensemble de ces belles photos...
Le nom de la péniche est le prénom de l'une de mes filles "Daphné"...
gros bisous

The concentration was key of course. So much is going on on board these barges.

Sometimes it's better to enjoy and not to take photos ;)

That must have been a charming evening!

Toujours aussi mondain, à ce que je vois. Les artistes semblaient charmantes.

Quelle belle invitation, Peter !
J'aime bien the printed program. Belle idée un concert dans une péniche et je vois que décidément tout finit par un verre et qq chose à grignoter.

Soirée sympa, à en juger par tes photos (ou par leur manque).

Bonjour Peter. Thank you for stopping by chez French Girl today. I am glad I visited your blog. What a fun evening you had on that barge! "Le cadre" made all the difference, I am sure, and the two ladies sounded very talented. I can't carry a tune or play an instrument, so am always in awe of musicians, professionals or amateurs. Great post, merci! Veronique (French Girl in Seattle)

Tu es un esthète et un gourmand de belles et bonnes choses, Peter.
Tu ne veux pas en plus rivaliser avec Olivier pour la couverture des événements ?
Passe un bon week-end en famille !

A beautiful concept, and I imagine from your descriptions that it was actually lovely as well. Small spaces with such intimacy with fine music is delightful!

I would not know how to act properly in that crowd of people I never met. I suppose that is what happens when parents think it is cute to name their baby after his famous cousin. I know it has helped me in business and even got me a 13 week television show but it has been bad as well. Who can get into trouble and stay in trouble for very long if you are named, Abraham Lincoln?

I must also compliment you on a good job on your layout, Peter. It is so much nicer than it used to be with stuff all jumbled up together. I like to read captions, at least, as I am looking at the pictures. This design was, for me, your best performance to date.

It must be nice to be famous and get invitations like this.

There's Barge Music in Brooklyn that's quite similar, but I'd rather be in Paris any day.
Bon Paques Peter!!
