Queen Elizabeth

Queen Elizabeth II made a three day State visit to France, in combination with the 70-years D-Day celebrations. She finished it by a visit to the Flower Market (see previous post) on Ile de la Cité, which at this occasion changed name to “Marché aux Fleurs Reine Elizabeth II”.

It was raining before her arrival; public and officials under umbrellas or trees.

She appeared ... and the rain stopped. Prince Philip was of course there as well as the French President.

The Queen listened attentively to the speech by the newly elected Mayor of Paris, Anne Hidalgo. As we can see on the top picture, the Queen who is fluent in French and doesn’t need any translation of the official speeches, was smiling, as she has been during the whole visit.

Then it was time for a walk among the spectators… I lost the view of the Queen. Not easy with all body-guards, official photographers… and the Queen is not that tall.

When it was time to leave, the rain resumed. I got a picture of Prince Philip when he managed to enter his 93 year old legs into the car without difficulties.

I love them! Boy -- you sure had a fabulous view of things. Did you get a special press pass or just get there very, very early! These are wonderful photos.

I was just one of many in the crowd... Yes, a press pass would be useful! Wherever there is an "event", all official photographers mostly makes
it impossible to even see, not mentioning taking a photo. Long arms... :-)

Bravo to our man about Paris, Peter! You got some great shots and loved the comment about Philips 93 year old legs! HA I'm not all that tall either so I can relate in some very small way with HM!

What a lovely picture of Her Majesty The Queen. How lucky you were to be that close! It's nice to see that she presents a warmer image and seems a bit more approachable than in previous years.

Love to hear Paris's weather was in its best behaviour.
What more fitting than rain for this British couple?
Thanks, Peter.

Some discovery for me!

Je me demande s'il y a un marché aux fleurs qui porte le nom d'une reine de France, à Londres.

It must've been really cool to have the opportunity to be there and take these photos!

My, you are running in some very swanky circles, Peter. (Seriously, you got some great shots!)

Peter I can't believe you got close enough to the Queen to get such good shots - you're becoming a real paparazzi. Do you have a press card?

Congratulations for braving the rain on this occasion.

I love this building and can't wait to tour it again this Summer. It appears to have been cleaned on the outside since my last time in Paris.
