Eiffel Tower - glass floor

What you see above are my feet on the new (solid) glass floor of the first level of the Eiffel Tower. We are - only - about 1/6 on the way to the top, but there are anyhow some 57 m (187 ft) to the ground.  The glass is - almost – transparent.

Here you can see the limited parts of the floor which offer the pleasure to look down on the people queuing downstairs.

The first floor has just finished a two-year (€ 30-million = $ 37.5-million) makeover. Until February 15 you can even do some ice-skating there.

Although it’s not so high up, there are some interesting views. If you wish to see some photos from the higher levels, you can have a look on my preceding nine posts about the Tower.

I went there on a Tuesday morning with fairly few visitors. Anyhow, look at the difference between the queuing to the South entry where you have to use the stairs (about 350 steps to the first floor, a bit over 700 to the second floor…) and the queuing to the North entry - with lifts.

Great post, Peter, thanks! I always tell people to climb instead of waiting in line for an elevator. It really isn't that big of a deal and takes less than 45 mn. Loved the photos of the ice skating rink! Looks like the weather was decent for you. A bientôt. Veronique (French Girl in Seattle)

Bonjour cher Peter,

Gros bisous ❄︎ ♡ ❄︎

Great photos, Peter! I don't know about skating up there though - I have enough difficulty when I'm on the ground :)

I bow to the master, the climbing master. You probably did that without even breathing heavily if I know you! BRAVO and glad you didn't faint when you looked down through the glass. You said you didn't think you could do it but I knew you would for your blog. :)

Great photos. I had seen some other photos of ice skating there, but I didn't realize it was actually on/in the Eiffel Tower -- I had figured it was below.

Une façon de dépasser le "plafond de verre".

One of the best times to be in Paris is between Christmas and New Year's. It's so beautiful. Thank you for the photos.

It is wonderful to be in Paris at this time of the year!
Been there...and had a blast!

Seeing your feet on that glass though gives me the willies....

Absolutely delicious photos.
Thank you, Peter!
