Sometimes
you are struck by the architecture of a building. This is the case with this
one, 30 avenue Marceau.
It dates
from 1914 and is one of the first important jobs by André Granet (1881-1974).
The style seems still to hesitating between Art Nouveau and Art Deco – most of Granet’s
later works are much more clearly in an Art Deco style – he was e.g. involved
in the construction of Salle Pleyel (see previous post). He was also very much
involved in organizing and designing major Paris exhibitions, especially linked
to aviation and automobile (Parenthesis: Granet married the granddaughter of Gustaf
Eiffel and lived for a while in Eiffel’s fantastic private mansion… rather
recently replaced by a modern office building.)
The almost
overloaded decoration seems to be dominated by pine cones…
… present, but less dominating on the balcony railings.
