Monte Carlo

So, in the preprogrammed posting during my absence, here is a new episode from our wonderful stay on the French Riviera (Côte d’Azur) on the invitation by Jilly; this time with some shots from Monte Carlo. Please note that Jilly also has a special Monte Carlo blog!

It’s difficult to imagine the present economic crises when you visit a place like this. We also somehow behaved as if there is no crisis and had some champagne at the “Bar Américain” of the Hôtel de Paris, followed by dinner at the Café de Paris. Fortunately there are days like these!

Most of the buildings around the “Place du Casino”, the Casino, the Opera and the Grand Hôtel, were designed by Charles Garnier, the creator of the Paris “Opera Garnier” (see previous post).

The place was in full preparation for the Formula 1 race next weekend with stands and a lot of protections built up which made it difficult to get any larger nice views for photos.

If you want to have a closer look on some of these photos, please go to Ipernity.

Time to wish you a nice weekend!

Peter,
Oh how I wish I could have joined you all on this wonderful weekend. I've enjoyed all the photographs and the interesting way you all have photographed the same spots. How fun to share this with each other. I look forward to my time in Paris with you and having the opportunity to photograph Paris together. I hope we can include many blog friends as well!

And the crise does not change those buildings - fortunately !

Lovely top photo Peter, I'm actually quite envious. I'll have to ask you what setting you were on to achieve this. The light is perfect and so is the depth of field. It really renders the evening's atmosphere very well.

Yes Virginia, roaming the place with four other photographers was fun. For some reason the boys spent longer around the posh cars than the women did. Ah, big toys for big boys!

Coucou Peter!

These are some beautiful collages of an apparently extravagant Monte Carlo. Even in your absense with preprogramming your posts are magnificent, and Jilly must be an impressive host. Thanks Peter, and I hope Sweden is being good to you...

Fantastic photos! I went to Monaco last year for a day out..whilst staying in Liguria.. it was brilliant.

My husband is there now, he works in Formula 1, as done for 8 years, travels everywhere with them!

Hi Peter! Sorry for the absence, but I’ve been busy with my parents’ health; almost 180 years to care... ;)

WOW! So, this time you won at the Casino! Big splurge, like Frommers' guide used to say when instead of «Europe on 5 (five) dollars a day» you were going to spend ten (10)... ;))

Blogtrotter is paying homage to Vilnius as European Capital of Culture 2009. Hope you enjoy and have a great weekend!

Ah Peter... how the other half live! I don't suppose I shall ever see Monte Carlo in real life, so I am enjoying your pictures and your experiences through my computer screen.
Enjoy your time in Sweden!

Oh Peter what a great set of photographs. I love them all but particularly love the champagne (of course!) and the last photo on the right. Love the way you see into the Salle Empire with its beautiful decoration. It is a truly gorgeous room and we see a glimpse. Clever you.

Grand Prix time is with us. Jenson Button is on pole for the race tomorrow.

Beau voyage.
A l'occasion .....

A bientôt.

Just answering a question! We will have to meet again Nathalie, soon, to discuss settings! :-)
