Villa Daviel ... and urban art again

I already posted about the “Butte aux Cailles”, but returned there with Virginia the other day and thought I could make a small additional post.

There are several quiet corners here and you still get a nice authentic feeling – including from the bars and the restaurants; so far rather few tourists around!

One little street which I did not cover in my previous posts is called “Villa Daviel”. (A “villa” would in Paris correspond to a small street, with individual houses.)
The street is very calm and the cats can walk around without any major risk.In my previous posts about the “Butte aux Cailles” I showed several examples of “urban art”. Together with the streets around Rue Mouffetard, like Rue Arbalète on which I posted the other day, the “Buttes aux Cailles” is also an area where artist activities are much promoted, more particularly by an association called the “Lezarts de Bièvre” (see their site) which e.g. organises visits to artist studios (including the coming weekend).

One of the houses on Villa Daviel is occupied by artists. The front gate is decorated by the overall present Jeff Aérosol and they had also posted information about the coming weekend events. Each year an “urban artist” (graffiti artist) is also in honour. Previous years such artists have been the ones appearing on my recent Rue Arbalète post like MissTic, Mesnager, Némo, Mosko, Speedy Graphito, Jef Aérosol, FKDL, Artiste Ouvrier... This year they have chosen “Jana und JS” and you can see some of their works here.

Peter, this is superb, as always! I see a very laid back, qualitative life via your pictures!

Fantastic!

By the way, a few of my friends have said hello!

Hmmmmm, urban art is obviously the name given to Grafitti to legitamise it... I still like it but imagine the architect who designs the buildings may believe that in fact his art is being defaced by this "urban art"... or Grafitti... Taking nothing away from the post though... and nice pics :)

Those villas are cool! And I love the cats!

the urban art is unbelievable!

Such a beautiful area. I love the way you show the unknown Paris, or unknown to me, anyway. Looks a gorgeous place to live. Love the cat portraits and the street art.

Looks like cats can safely sleep too.

Terrific art, so casual and temporary - even better.

My favorite shot is the stacked wood with the purple door.

Just from the photos you would never think this is Paris. It's so idyllic and I just love the cats.
I have been to Butte aux cailles several times and it's such a wonderful neighbourhood to stroll.

Peter,
I'm having déja vu! How fun to stroll down those lovely side streets again! You did a terrific job with these photos. Like your new avatar as well. I'm flattered!

PS Eva loved the chats! :)

Another great find Peter. I used to go to the restaurants and bars around there quite often about 10 years ago, but then I moved and now it's a difficult area to get to by public transport!

Say hello to Viriginia Peter... Why is it raining in Paris these dqys? No sun on the pictures I have been taking the few last days... but Paris is still beautiful. The visit of "La butte aux cailles" will be done through your blog though.

Owen said...

Funny, I walked through this "villa" about 23 years ago... and photographed cats. Those photos will turn up one of these days. Thanks Peter for bringing back memories...

Suis un peu stress ces jours-ci

Beautiful shots, Peter... Love the feel you've captured on Villa Daviel, my kind of place to wander about in, breathing in the atmosphere... lovely. And capturing those cats, of course I am a cat lover and they make the surroundings that much more contemplative. Thanks Peter,
David
'PS -- Great urban art, especially the girl looking in (or out?) the window.

PeterParis said...

SparkleMirror:
Thanks for these encouraging words. More urban art to come ... the "window girl" is obviously Jana herself!

Yes! ... and August is the month when you find mostly tourists only in Paris! :-)
