Rue de Paradis

Just back from a wonderful three hour concert by Paul McCartney (no photos). I'm sorry, but I'm quite busy at the moment and have some difficulties to visit all blogs and posts. I do my best. Here is anyhow a post.
Rue de Paradis (the Paradise Street) in the 10th arrondissement used to be the paradise if you were looking for china, faïence, crystal ware... There are still some shops around with a large and nice choice, but it may not be quite what it used to be.
The name of the street seems to come from a small convent garden which a few centuries ago was called the Paradise.

The famous Baccarat used to be installed here with sales and a museum, but today remains only the facade with modern office buildings behind. If you wish to visit Baccarat in Paris today, you must rather go to Place-des-Etats-Unis in the 16th arrondissement (see previous post), where you will find a beautiful Baccarat Gallery (museum, shop, restaurant...).

One remarkable building on the Paradise Street (see top picture) was constructed at the end of the 19th century and used to be the office and showroom of a pottery called Boulenger, which among other things provided a large part of the Paris metro murals, including the well-known white tiles, manufactured at Choisy-le-Roi, a Paris suburb. The building was 1978-91 a museum for posters and other types of older publicity, but is today closed to public (office for the fashion house Escada).
I wish you a nice weekend!

It is nice to look at your blog because it is so detailed. Even though I flew to Paris 2 or 3 times a year to visit my mother for about 20 years or more I never went to many places in Paris so it is nice to look at them again. For example I went o Rue Paradis on many occasions to buy china, wedding gifts, etc. with my mum years ago but did not know that most stores had left. They had such good prices. Your pictures are very evocative and even though I just came back from Paris less than a month ago, I am already homesick.

Good choice for a subject. I think this street is ripe for some kind of renovation as there is a lot of interesting stuff there. For the moment though it is kind of sad and lost though, and as you say, 'not what it used to be'.

Never worry about being too busy to visit everyone's posts. The time to worry is when we spend all our time visiting posts and never get outside.

Au Monopoly, c'est une des moins chère, mais dans la réalité, elle est quand même pas mal.

from cali:
Sir Paul made a fantastic show during three hours without leaving the scene!! A nice mixture of new and old stuff, solo or accompanied by four excellent musicians! 18 thousand people watching, all sold out in 8 minutes! :-)

Vagabonde:
Next time, maybe we can make a walk together? :-)

Olivier:
A priori les photos étaient interdite, mais je pense que quelques milliers des photos ont été prises! Personnellement, j'avais envie de me concentrer sur la musique! :-)

Claude:
Oui, on construisait différemment à l'époque! :-)

Shammickite:
It seems that this is part of what is said to be his last concert tour, ending with London December 22! Sorry!
This means that I have seen him at his debut (Hamburg, Stork Club 1962) and at one of his last concerts! (In the meantime, my daughter (when whe was 16) met him walking in a street in London, talked to him...! :-)

Alain:
Toutes les rues n'ont pas le droit de figurer dans le Monopoly! C'est déjà un honneur! :-)

Lovely. I have a fond connection with Grandma Olive: a Baccarat decanter. Has one chip in the lip, which I would one day like to get repaired before giving it to my son, who loves all liquids that need decanting. :)

Ruth:
I'm sure he will appreciate then! :-)

So glad you posted photos of this area -- I recently read a book "Murder in the Rue du Paradis" (by Cara Black). Since this was an area I didn't visit, it helped give me a better visual for the area represented!
