I hardly
ever recommend eating and drinking places on my blog, but I think I can make an
exception. This one is to be found in the caves under the Madeleine Church (see
previous post and possibly this one). You enter by the modest little door on the
right side of the church. The local parish, helped by some un-paid ladies, offers lunch weekdays from 11.45 to 14.00, open to everybody. The place has a
clear charm; you are served at table with gentle smiles. There is a nice choice
of entries, main dishes, deserts (or cheese) and for all this you are charged 8€…
and you get a small bottle of wine for 0.50€! At your first visit you pay an
annual subscription of 5€.

Oh this sounds like a lovely place for lunch Peter. I love how you described the meal being served with "gentle smiles". I thought at first that you were referring to the soup kitchens that feed the homeless that I seem to remember are near here? Maybe not, you know my sense of direction! Nevertheless, I'm pleased you found this nice place that most of us would never hear about otherwise.

Intéressant !
Bonne semaine,
Pierre
Boy, that is different. Looks like a place that one has to visit!
I never found this one. Thanks. I'll look it up next visit.

Une gentille trouvaille!
Bonsoir Peter. I have walked around la Madeleine many times but I can honestly say I have never noticed that door on the side of the building--- Neither did I know about this unique restaurant. Amazing prices, and, apparently, amazing service too! Great find. Veronique (French Girl in Seattle)
Cela a certainement été fait pour les pèlerins, mais ils devraient demander un certificat de baptême.
Oh Peter - this sounds like one of those treasures that the locals guard fiercly for themselves!
Incredible value....
You are such a sweetie to let us know!

Nice one Peter!
And after drinking all that wine you can use the best public toilets in Paris just alongside!
Adam, I know about them (even posted), but I'm afraid they are closed... hopefully temporarily!
Another surprised tucked away. I never knew! But the photos look familiar. Perhaps I am remembering another cave restaurant in Paris...
Peter, how very interesting. I would gladly pay the 5€ fee just to dine there once!
Oooh, I've heard about this place!
What a wonderful little eatery, Peter. And it looks very popular, too. Wish I was there to try it!
Cela doit être envoutant de manger dans ce resto !
How cool! I'll definitely try it out! Thanks for the tip, Peter.
I've never heard about this place either. What a fantastic place. This is now in my Paris Moleskin book for my next trip.
Thanks for sharing Peter. you always have something very special in your posts.
When I come to Paris, you will have to take me there so we can enjoy at least one meal at the same table. √
Since I was hacked I had to give up my old user name and the blogs that went with it. So this is the new birds blog and I hope you can come visit. Birds Birds Birds and Birds
Oh, it looks so nice and friendly. I'd like to have lunch there.... TODAY! Unfortunately I'm a bit too far away, but I am making a not and next time I am in Paris, I will be there!
