I have some sad news from what I call "my" park, because it's only one minute's away from my home. I reported here and here about a Bar-headed Goose who was laying on three eggs. After more than three weeks, she has now for some reason abandoned them.
I showed also a duck with four happy ducklings. Only one is still there.
These things are probably quite normal, but it feels really sad, when you come to look at them closely.

:( Hopefully she knew what she was doing and the eggs weren't viable.
One of my hens is always broody - we let her set a dozen fertile eggs that I had bought for her; try as she may, she couldn't get them to hatch.
I think they instinctively know when something has gone wrong.
Worried about the nest and the eggs as well.

Perhaps the other ducklings were off somewhere when you happened by. I hope so. But oh, abandoned eggs make me extra sad.
Aaaw, I hate this kind of thing. Isn't it fascinating that we humans can get attached to other beings that we might never even have interacted with? Let's hope everything is well, even though it might not seem that way to us.

I'm so glad you're so close to this park and can keep an eye on the new life there. Sometimes it's not as we hoped but I love the photo on the right. Nature has a way I suppose.
