Yes, I know,
I should get back to my trip to the south of France, but…
This is a report from
yesterday. I went to the Eiffel Tower to see my son arrive among the 25,000
others, participating in the yearly race “20 km de Paris” (12.4 miles). We
never found each other…
… so instead
I took a walk to…
… and on the
“Île des Cygnes” (Isle of the Swans) - an artificial island created in 1827. It
stretches between the Pont de Bir-Hakeim (see previous post) and Pont de
Grenelle (see previous post), is 850 m (2,800 ft) long, only 11 m (36 ft) wide.
This is also where you find the quarter scale copy of the Statue of Liberty, offered
by Americans in Paris in 1889 – 100 years after the Revolution. (I wrote about
the Liberty statues in posts on my previous blog, see here).
I didn’t see
any swans, but people reading, jogging, walking dogs….
I could also
see the Eiffel Tower and the Sacré Coeur….
… but what I
especially noticed was that the autumn colours are there.
Surprisingly,
“my” park is still green.

Beautiful and the autumn colours are brilliant.
Thanks for all your great Paris posts, maps and photos. Cheers.
Quite beautiful! I walked along that island and sat by the small Liberty statue when I was in Paris with my sons. I remember it being a very hot day and my shoe had rubbed a blister on my foot so I was hobbling along very slowly!
Delightful walk on a splendid fall day
Wonderful people capture!
Loved the autumn colors too!
How wonderful to see the colors of autumn arriving in Paris through your photos!
Beautiful, Peter. What a lovely day to be in Paris! Our color is odd here, too -- way north, where it should be best, it's still green; near my cottage a dazzling color display and down south at home, it is on its way. Lovely color but alas, no Eiffel Tower to enjoy as you did~
Sorry you could not find your beautiful boy that day, but among 25.000 participants, it would not have been easy .......
I had never heard before of the Island of the Swans.
Those trees in their autumnal garb...what a marvel! Love the dreamy quality of their photos.......
Beautiful post, Peter. Thank you.
Peter, I hope your son was pleased with his time in the 20 km. run. And your photos of Paris in Fall colors are so very beautiful! Thank you for those visual delights!!!
