Albert Kahn Garden

Albert Kahn (1860-1940) was a banker and philanthropist who lived here. He got bankrupt in 1929 (Wall Street Crash), but had then already transformed the gardens around his house to a public park. It’s situated just outside Paris, at Boulogne-Billancourt. It’s amazing.
The park has different parts, the most spectacular may be the Japanese one - Kahn travelled to Japan with a photographer and brought home not only photos, but also Japanese gardeners and architects, plants, houses… If you visit the garden during the spring, the colours are even more spectacular.
Other parts of the park include a rose garden with a palm house…
… and some wilder areas.
Albert Kahn also sent photographers all over the world. At the entrance, there is today a museum and archives with some 72.000 colour photos and 183.000 meters of film, “The Archives of the Planet”.

I wish you a nice weekend!

(I'm off to Sweden again for about a week. I have pre-programmed some posts, including this one.)

Thank you for those gorgeous photos. I am particularly awed by the one of the tree straight up, but all of them are wonderful.

Beautiful place so glad he donated it as a park before he lost it all and now we get to enjoy the splendor of the place.

I like the arrangement of plants, stones, bridge, water... Japanese and European style are both used in one garden!

We often talk about whether I should visit other cities/countries. But then you post these wonderful places I"ve not yet seen, so I think I will return to Paris, the city j'adore, till I"ve seen it all. Is that possible? :)

I wish you safe travels to Sweden.

What a lovely garden Peter. Is it synchronicity? My current post is about the Japanese Garden in Long Beach, California, we visited about 2 weeks ago: http://avagabonde.blogspot.com/2010/07/tour-of-japanese-garden-in-long-beach.html.
