Marché Saint-Pierre

This is a view from in front of the Sacré Coeur. You can recognise the Saint-Jacques Tower, Notre Dame, Saint-Etienne-du-Mont, Pantheon, Saint- Eustache, Sainte Chapelle …. and a lot of rooftops.

If you rather look slightly left and down, you will find the Marché Saint-Pierre. There is the old covered market in the Baltard style, Halle Saint-Pierre, from 1868, which since 1986 houses a Museum for Naïve Art and temporary expositions, a library… (no photos inside allowed). You can also see the terrace of a building which pretends to be the world’s largest tissue store “Le Marché Saint Pierre (Dreyfuss)” … . I took also a photo from the terrace looking up to Sacré Coeur.
This area, all the adjacent streets, has since some 60 years specialised in selling textiles. There is another large store, “Reine”, and a number of smaller shops. The quality goes from the top to the cheapest.

If you use the metro station “Anvers”, in the direction of Sacré Coeur, you will automatically cross the area.

(I'm still in Sweden; this post is pre-preogrammed.)

I think before long the City of Paris is going to have to award you a Legion d'Honneur, for no one will have explored more of Paris, and so thoroughly, than you...

Happy travelling...

«Louis» missed Marché St.-Pierre when he lived in Paris, but he remembers the fabric-sellers near Montmartre, Reine, in particular.

Hi Peter! The first one is superb; the others remember me so many times that I went up to Montmartre from "Anvers"... ;))

que de souvenirs : j'ai habité à deux pas...des tissus qu'on ne trouvait nulle part ailleurs....une ambiance à la Zola....(au bonheur des dames)

You are talking about my home turf as they say. We lived a few blocks down the street and my mother and I went often to the Marché St Pierre where she would buy remnants. I had many dresses made from fabric from that shop and the others around there. Actually I go there myself sometimes to buy fabric when I am in Paris. Here the fabric stores are going out of business as not many young Americans sew anymore.

I'm enjoying all your posts as I catch up from vacation. The "view" photo brought back fond memories of a lovely picnic on the steps of Sacre Coeur on a warm June night. I must have taken a dozen photos of that view -- none so perfect!
