Barcelona (1)

Barcelona is of course especially known for its fabulous architecture, the number of world heritage buildings, the “Catalan modernista” (art nouveau), Gaudi… I will revert on this. In the meantime, here are just a few pictures from the “Ciutat Vella”, the older part of the city - the Barri Gotic, La Rambla, Placa Reial, the Cathedral, the St. Josep Mercat … (... and don't forget here a visit to the Picasso museum - no photos allowed, especially concentrated on his amazing early works, from the age of 14 - and a bit later.)

… and from the Montjuïc hill with its Palau Nacional (art museum), the Olympic installations…

Maybe some of you remember the performance by Freddy Mercury and Montserrat Caballé in front of the Palau in 1988, when it was clear that Barcelona had got the 1992 Games.

Fabulous photo Peter, but oh my word it is so busy. Never seen it like that.

We took the funicular across to Port Vell from Montjuïc, I overcame my fear of heights and being over water!!

The market is amazing, we have super shots too,

Thanks for sharing and bringing back great memories of this wonderful place.

La ciutat més bella de la costa espanyola!

The land of my ancestors, on my mother's side.

Thanks for those beautiful photos and for the link!

Wonderful post, M. Peter!

Oh my, it looks so green and varied and full of fun details! I'm already looking forward to the next part. I have never been to Barcelona, but it seems very charming!

Hi there! You did lots of things in my city! I'm impressed! How long were you there? Did you try horchata? My friends either love it or hate it, I love it!
Best regards from the beach!

Thank you Peter, for taking me back to a favorite European city of mine. I have visited B. so often over the years! (My family owns a small place a couple of hours north of Barcelona on the Costa Brava.) I was there enjoying the fabulous Barrio Gotico a year ago with my teenage son. Wonderful photos... and cool video clip. I had never seen it! What a pair. And it worked! Who would have thought? -- Veronique (French Girl in Seattle)

J'y suis allée à Barcelone mais j'étais très jeune. Je ne me souviens que de la Rambla qui me fait penser à la promenade de Béziers.
C'est certainement une ville qui mérite plus d d'attention.> Peut-être un jour...

So glad to see Barcelona through your eyes.
Quel talent ce Picasso! Le musee est extraordinaire: ce qu'un peintre a fait pendant les derniers vingts ans de sa vie, Picasso l'a fait au cours de son adolescence, c'est incroyable.

Nice, you caught the essence. There is even a photo of my street in the Raval.
