I had no intention to post about Palais Royal again; I have already done it a number of times as well on this blog as on my previous one. My intention was to visit what may be considered as the first “skyscraper” in Paris, situated just behind the Palais Royal. But… I could not resist against taking a few new photos.
Finally, I made a very short post about the “skyscraper”, which you may see just below this post.
For hopefully the specific pleasure of Virginia, who is a real fan of the Palais Royal, I can inform that, after several months, the restoration of the Galéries d’Orléans now is – almost - finished. As some additional information I could add that these colonnades in the 17th century were preceded by some similar ones, then in 1789 replaced by some wooden barracks. In 1829 a real gallery with shops was built, destroyed in 1930, but the colonnades were saved, thus now restored.
So, if you wish, below is the second simultaneous post about the “skyscraper”.

They work quickly I was just there a few weeks ago and the palais royal still had scaffolding in the courtyard area!
Paris is so lovely in spring, good to see it without scaffolding, there was a lot of it when i was there, will have to come back again to see it finished, thanks Peter!
I will never tire of Palais Royal much like Virginia. The trees have never been in bloom in the six times I have been there so thanks Peter for the beautiful pictures and great post.

I enjoyed reading all the backposts I missed during my travels. By coincidence I am reading the memoires of Helene Berr (in French) and she was talking about the rafle of the Vel D’Hiv that happened the 16 and 17 July 1942 – so it was interesting to see the pictures in your post.
I was in the Palais Royal gardens last Wednesday, May 18th, and it looked just like in your picture – very dry. The roses were beautiful and I took many pictures of them. My husband had some old bread with him and spent a while feeding the pigeons and they even ended up coming on his knees and arms. (I‘ll make a post on that later.) I used to have a summer job in one of the souvenir shops under the arcade when I was a teenager, but I forgot to look for the shop to see if it was still there.
They're very nice photos of the Palais Royal... it's like you just gave me a personal tour. Thank you and I enjoy reading your blog.
As far as I'm concerned you can do parts of Paris over and over as many times as you want. Some incredible photographs in here.

Peter, I am so glad to hear that they are almost finished as one part or another has been under repair for a very long time.
What a difference that fountain is from the snowball fight in the ice basin that we saw in December!

One year in Paris the Notre Dame was being cleaned, painstakingly, and it was covered in scaffolding and black mesh. Disappointing, but it was so beautifully white after. It's hard on tourists who visit during the restoration. :-)

Well, I, for one, am glad you did the Palais again, for each series of photos brings something new. This wasn't a place I saw on my trip to Paris apart from the bus, so I love seeing within. Perhaps next summer when we come.
I know when we do I will be contacting you about those walks you do. What a guide you would be!
