Ritz

Together with some other Paris bloggers I had the honour to be invited to the famous Ritz Paris Hotel by Travel Onion, a web site selecting what they consider to be the best (you understand why I feel honoured) blogs covering history, events… in different cities worldwide.
Extremely well received by the Travel Onion representatives as well as by some eminent members of the hotel staff who accompanied us during the whole event, we were fist welcomed in what may be the most elegant suite at the hotel for some drinks - champagne of course. (The top picture shows one of the suite’s bedrooms.)
We then made a tour of the different facilities…
… and ended up in the kitchen, or rather the cooking class, Ecole Ritz Escoffier, named after the hotel founder César Ritz and Auguste Escoffier, referred to as the king of chefs and the chef of kings. Together we prepared a tomato tart and then veal medallions, accompanied by a potato and celery gratin … and especially a fantastic sauce. Of course, if the result ended up being perfect, it was basically thanks to the chef, Didier Steudier, who also prepared the dessert - without our intervention.
The meal was accompanied by champagne and some good wines. Although tempted, we decided that a visit to the Hemingway Bar (with the world’s best bartender), was not necessary. Another time… and I have been there before (see previous post).

Sincere thanks to Travel Onion the Ritz Hotel for letting us enjoy this remarkable event!

Here you can find the other blogs represented during this evening:

Oh Peter, what an amazing experience!
Great food, great environment and great company!
That suite on the first picture will be subject of my dreams from now on...
You are a lucky man!

I really enjoyed your post and cannot believe that it is going on 60 years since my college buddies and I "did" Europe with a most memorable stay at the Ritz in Paris. It was a huge indulgence and sheer heaven to us at that time and must still be heaven from the looks of your pics. Do they still have the incredible elevator cage of wrought iron and gilt that was a work of art? Sigh.

Oh la la Peter! The Ritz! A real palace – I walked by it many times but never went inside. What an honor really to be shown this fabulous and historic hotel – and the Ritz Escoffier school! Your photos give us a glimpse of the sumptuous décor, in a quintessential French style – the bedroom suite looks like it is waiting for some high born nobility. L’Art de Vivre à la Française…..I just bought a ticket for Paris, but unfortunately I won’t be going to the Ritz this time (lol.) Maybe I can have a drink at the Hemingway bar. When we were in Key West last November my husband bought me the latest edition of Hemingway’s A Moveable Feast. I’ll read your post on the bar and try to go there.

It looks so gorgeous and I can well believe how chuffed you must be to have been invited. Congratulations and glad you enjoyed the experience.

How amazing to be a guest at this prestigious establishment - you well deserved the honour. I love the photos of that opulent/elegant bedroom and the fabulous kitchen.
Now I'm clicking back to the top to re-visit this lovely post.
Loved it all.

Wow! I loved this so much that I checked out all the other blogs, and only two mentioned it besides yourself. Your photos are marvelous, and I also went back to your original story about Harry's bar for the best bartender, and so had double the fun this evening, sharing your excellent cuisine and fun. The story on Ernest Hemingway is fantastic as well! Congrats for being the Best, which we here have long recognized.

Bises!

Car tu le "veau" bien.
C'est magnifique là dedans !

Peter! I'm blown away by this. My sister and I tried to get into the lobby just for a look around, but the doorman would have none of it. So I am very impressed that you were invited, and treated like a king (of chefs)! This is a treasure of a lifetime. Did they offer a discount on a night in the hotel? Of course it is very good marketing for you to show off your experience to us, and maybe one day we will win the lottery and stay in that grandest suite. Beautiful!

You've said it all Peter, I don't know what else I'll be able to add!

Well, in my view that is the most deserved invitation and honor for you, Peter. You are a virtual treasure trove of information and history paired with great photos. I only wish that some of us could have been there to accompany you - hehehe.

Congratulations on a wonderful evening!

Congradulations for being selected; it was most certainly deserved!

What a nice honor, but I have to disagree with the Travel Onion. They really only needed to invite you because your blog is so much better than the others.

Dear Peter, I found your blog very recently and have so enjoyed your post on Le Ritz. I was there last December with my mother in law and my husband and we enjoyed a wonderful lunch at the bar. It was a necessary stop as we were following in Coco Chanel's footsteps ;-) I was so impressed with the lobby... and the restroom. I can't imagine how much fun you had visiting the rest of this very special place. I will be catching up on your other posts shortly. Merci beaucoup! -- French Girl in Seattle

I think these things are very well. Now the network shopping is very wise choice. Thank you for the recommended!

PeterParis said...

I don't recommend "watches" at all! I sent a message to the company behind this kind of stupid promotion to ask them to stop. Have already deleted a number of similar messages.

You really are top of the blogs, Peter. We all knew that of course...
Great photos, I'm almost out of words.

Congratulations, Peter -- I can't think of an honor more deserved. The photos -- as always -- are splendid, but what really made me a tad envious was your time in the kitchen! I hope someday to take a cooking class in Paris -- even if only for a few hours!

Peter, what an absolutely fabulous treat you have given us. A well-deserved invitation and we came along too! I just know you had the very best time and am so glad. Great photos you have shared with us.

Hope you've sorted the spam. That is really a nuisance.

By the way, you can delete it completely - you tick a box that says 'if you delete this it will disappear forever' - and then no one can even see you had a spam message.

Congratulations Peter. It's a great honour and you totally deserve it.

The hotel is amazing and the pictures are making me drool. Thank you so much for sharing!

What? More champagne? You can have that at home any day LOL

Just kidding - It's only because I'm jealous. Do you think travel onion will run a similar event in Avignon? I wouldn't mind being invited there. (travel onion people if you read me...) :-)

Anyway, congratulations for being among the chosen. I'm not surprised though, yours is a truly fine blog.
